Last week and today, we have been adding and subtracting fractions. We have added and subtracted when fractions have the same denominator which is easy because the DENOMINATOR stays the same and we just add or subtract across the top (from the left to right). We have also look at adding and subtracting when the denominators are different which means we have to make sure they have the SAME DENOMINATOR first before adding or subtracting. Then finally, we have looked at what to do when we have to add or subtract mixed number fractions.

Today, I showed the children a 'trick' to help them speed up this process. I have attached the video to this blog.

Now we are moving on to multiplying and dividing fractions. The methods are really easy but the understanding behind it is a little more complex!
