Year 5 and 6

Date: 10th Sep 2018 @ 8:07am

On Friday, Year 5 and 6 starting thinking about their mini theme 'Black History Month'. To start this topic, they watched the film Hidden Figures and used this is a stimulus to discuss equality and discrimination. It was a very successful day with lots of good discussions. One of the activities the children completed was to write a song/rap/chant about equality and here they are:

Race doesn't matter,

Dreams won't shatter,

Freckles are cool,

Too cool for school.

Don't discriminate

Help us fight the hate

Doesn't matter if you're girl or boy,

You can play with any toy,

Doesn't matter if your're bit or small,

Good friends will catch you when you fall.

Don't discriminate

Help us fight the hate

Being religious is a right,

It's not reason to start a fight,

It doesn't matter what size you are,

Keep the faith and you'll go far.

Don't discriminate

Help us fight the hate

BLACK MALE, WHITE MALE

CAN WE GET THE SAME RESTROOMS!

It doesn't matter if you're small or tall

It doesn't matter if you're black or white

It doesn't matter if you're boy or girl

and that is what equality is.

If you dress different that's ok

If you have blue or green eyes, that's ok

If you're black or white, that's fine

It doesn't matter if you're black or white

WHAT DO WE WANT?

THE SAME BUS FOR EVERYONE

WHEN DO WE WANT IT?

NOW

We are all human

We want to be treated the same

It doesn't matter if you have freckles or glasses

We should have age appropriate classes

We want

We want equality, yeah!

Equality, yeah!

Age shouldn't be a factor

Height doesn't really matter

We are all amazing and have hidden treasure

We need to find an equality balance

We want

We want equality, yeah!

Equality, yeah!

Equality is important, it's what we need

Don't judge us!
