Our Curriculum

New Curriculum

Primary schools are now in full swing of using the new national curriculum. We hope you enjoy reading about our theme-based teaching and learning approach as much as we enjoy it! Below you will find links to our termly theme overviews. Please take the opportunity to read through and do some extra exploring of the topics with your child or children at home! If you would like to find out more about the National Curriculum that our children follow, please click on the link below.

In the heart of our school building we have a computer suite which is timetabled to enable every class to use it at least once a week or more. Computing is also used constantly and effectively within the classroom, reinforced by our mobile set of lap tops and iPads that can be used anywhere around the school.

To support our children we have different intervention groups which are delivered by support staff, fully trained in the delivery of that program. These interventions include: Ginger Bear, Early Literacy Support (ELS), Talking Partners, 1stClass Maths, Silver SEAL, and Seasons for Growth. We also have the continued and valued services of Helen Denton, who provides targeted behaviour support, as well as individual counselling sessions with our school counsellor.

Reading Schemes

In our school we use a levelled colour banded system for our reading scheme. Within these colour bands we have books from various reading schemes including Oxford Reading Tree, Oxford Literacy Web, Project X and Rigby Star. This offers a wide range of reading material to support reading at home and in school.

We follow closely the Letters and Sounds synthetic phonic program to teach reading. We have daily 20 minute Letters and Sounds sessions. Children are setted across the year groups dependent on ability, so that all L&S phases are covered as well as spelling and grammar sessions.

As part of our PSHE curriculum in school, we follow the S.E.A.L (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) program. The areas we focus on are: New Beginnings, Relationships, Good To Be Me, Say No To Bullying and Changes. S.E.A.L is taught within year groups, through assemblies and underpins the whole curriculum.

Children's Rights/ P4C

With our link to UNICEF, all of our learning is underpinned with an on-going focus on The Children's Rights. We are passionate about our philosophy learning approach where our children engage in respectful conversations about their's and other children's rights in life.

Extra Curricular

We offer a range of extra-curricular activities for our children to participate in and these run after school, at lunch times and before school. Clubs are run by teachers, support staff, governors and outside agencies like Widnes Vikings Rugby Club. The clubs are rotated half termly to offer a range throughout the year. Current clubs include: homework, running, games, children voice, gardening, netball and craft club. Previous and future clubs include: reading, cooking club, rugby, yoga, dance, softball, martial arts, table tennis and maths club.

Superhero Spellings

In Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 we run our weekly Superhero Spellings! Children aim to move up to each level of superhero, in which they have to learn and be tested on specific spellings linked to that level. You can find copies of the spelling lists on the attachments in this page below.

All Saints Upton Nurture Focus

All Saints has always been a nurturing school. However, from the academic year 2017-18 our school has taken on a whole new nurture focus. The school now has a designated Nurture Lead (Mrs J. Taylor) who runs our nurture groups. We have our nurture pod 'The Snug' where certain children go to talk about their feelings, develop their social and emotional skills and recieve support to live a happy, healthy and positive life. There are also other interventions that take place through Nurture. We are very excited to see the huge impact that this will have on our fantastic children.

If you look at the links below, you will find copies of our Superhero Spelling lists as well as our curriculum class overviews for each half-term (also on class pages). In the meantime, here is some of our recent art work from across the whole school!
