Our final week before the children reach the halfway point of their final year! Scary stuff!

I have just been updating our Times Table Rockstars display and I am very proud of lots of children who have improved their 'rock status' by answering times table questions more quickly! I would like to congratulate Matthew J, Perrin, Layton, Sullivan and Shardonay as they have moved up one level and Lewis K who has moved up two! Well done. In addition to this, we have ten children who are 'Rock Legends'; this means that on average, they answer times table questions in under 2 seconds!

We are beginning to chat about the end of the year and their transition and will continue to work on this as the year progresses. I am also holding a parent information meeting about SATs on Thursday which will hopefully provide an opportunity for any questions that need answering - I will do my best. If you are unable to make it, I am hoping to catch up with you all at some point so you don't miss out any vital information!

This point in the year is so crucial and the children are working very hard, both in school and at home. It is great to see examples of dedication to their own learning. We are also allowing some time for relaxation within school time too. We are hoping to spend some of Friday afternoon with our buddies this week as a reward for their good behaviour!

Over the half term, we have been planning, choreographing and filming a HIIT fitness workout for the other KS2 classes to use. In order to do this, we looked at some fitness sessions available for children and took part; we evaluated and discussed what we thought about them and planned and made our own. I have attached our fitness sessions to this blog for you to try at home!

Today (Tuesday), was 'Safer Internet Day' which is a really important topic especially as the children get older and have more responsibility and freedom. Miss Green and her 'E-safety' buddies held a very informative assembly about how to keep ourselves safe online. Then, the class took part in a P4C (Philosophy) session in response to a video clip we watched. The children were very sensible and considerate of each other's ideas and opinions. We discussed the question 'Are we safe online? and the children had some excellent responses. I have attached a table which includes some of the children's responses to this question. We established that the children are all very well informed about the dangers of the internet and the online games they are playing but sometimes do no follow their own rules. Perhaps sometimes we need to remind ourselves of the real and very serious dangers and think more carefully about decisions. You can find out more about 'Safer Internet Day' here: https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/2017

Tomorrow is own clothes day. We are raising money for the NSPCC and the children will have an assembly to find out more. Year 6 will also be taking part in a workshop in the afternoon. In addition to this, we have another visitor on Friday morning from Catch-22 and they will be doing a session with Year 6 around internet safety.

Well done to Year 6 for another brilliant week!

See you all soon!

Miss Hopkins.
